This 9.4-mile in/out hike is strenuous and starts and ends at  Unicoi Gap at GA Hwy 17/75.  From Unicoi, the hike proceeds southbound (northwestward) up to the summit of Blue Mountain.  The hike continues past the shelter down to Hansen Gap, around Spaniards Knob, and on to Chattahoochee Gap (the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River).
